Ahhhhh!!! Make it stop!! (the poor quality is probably the recording device more than anything - at least lets hope).
Doesn't Warren look so natural in a tux? Like a long-haired hippie-penguin.
When are they going to change "Touch of Grey" to "Mostly Grey"?

Interesting how they disguised themselves as the Grateful Dead just to get in to an Obama Inaugural Ball. I wonder if they got caught. That one guy kinda looked like a young Wilford Brimley, but maybe a little too tall. Did they get paid for that? Tax dollars? Ecch. I wretch.

Whatever les paul and andre segovia did, these guys didn't. Those old bastards could still bust out the jams but the way the dude who looks like he was previsously the one called bob looked back to make sure they knew a change was coming and then anti-climatically jumped into the most mundane grooveless touchhead anthem was a bit much. I would rather see drooling jerry with 2 weeks of unwashed junkware buildup stumbling through the wrong lyrics than that. There was no "soul" in it if you ask me. Reminded me of a high school dance cover band honestly. Bill gates on bass was a blast though. Who the hell was the oddly obese fellow imitating the mexican dude?

That was truly disheartening. They sound more like a mediocre bar band than a bunch of guys with more than 40 years on the road experience under their taken-out-a-couple-of-notches belts. Maybe that's the trouble - they've been doing it too long and really they just don't want to be doing it anymore. And if that's that case, this lacklustre bunch of washed up old hasbeens have got a fucking nerve asking $100 a ticket. Really, what's the point?
Remember them this way:

Yep, I suppose this may just pull the rug out re:value...
If this gets out (hmmm), I think our stock just dropped.
Our collections were of debatable value yesterday, but with this to top it off, I think we better just put all those CDs and well stocked HDs back on the shelf.
Wonder if the Fillmore boxed set is selling for significantly less today (vis-a-vis verification of this thesis).

Good to see you around these parts again. Only sad that it takes something this disheartening to bring you out. Yeah, I can only hope that this "performance" was something they didn't really want to do in the first place and the actual tour will be significantly better. I know that this stream of effluvium is a far cry from the Obama show in PA this past fall, which wasn't too damn bad at all. Time will tell, but I'm definitely putting my wallet away until they prove themselves.

just remember - nobody has ever done what they did, at least not for me. They've done more for longer than any band there is or was. So just remember that. Even if everything is crap from here on out that's not going to change. It's just like Dylan. He's apparently done writing anything meaningful but does that change his monumental career?

Re: Inaugural Video...be afraid, very afraid |
I beg to differ re Dylan - I though his last 3 albums were all quite good and his recent compliation of outtakes/alternative takes from same period ended up in many critics Top 10 year end lists. Now, I understand as a performer he pretty much is a train wreck these days (haven't seen him since the 90s; luckily, last show I saw was outstanding and I'll just hang on to that memory).
At least Dylan is still releasing new material ....

And again, who the hell was that ogre looking dude who kept staring over to see if it was ok to throw another lick on guitar in, like he was afraid he was interupting or something? Hey JOTS--agreed it can never be undone.
But, as we were talking the other day about CREAM (so-so on the geezer circuit) and Winwood (GREAT on geezer circuit!), my take is that they have to at least hold their own (?) on original stuff, and look like they are still trying to do something new...
So, I can handle some decline in vocals (whoops, our boys didn't have far to fall we'd all admit!), and a little in playing (but not much).

hey Tell
I hear you man, and it looks like they may be turning into a State Fair act huh? Ratdog tried to do something " new" even if I don't particularily like their originals ( understatment ), Phil not so much new BUT did at least bring back the challenging interesting tunes like the 11. And his 99 lineup was really great stuff, better than the actuial band had done for a long time.
I wish they'd just you know what or get off the pot. If they're going to play together they should play together consistantly to build cohesivness, otherwise it just will sound sloppy I think. But hey, who am I to say what they should or shouldn'tdo?

From what I am reading no one is saying the videos of the performance have diminished what that have done in the past (I assume excluding 92-95), but certainly tarnishes what the are currently doing, and casts a dark shadow on the tour they are embarking upon.

Nice summation.
The videos are in no way a reflection of what they have produced in the past, but rather a potetially bad omen of what will be produced in the future.
Kind of like Jim Rice's last couple of seasons w/ the Sox.

Re: Inaugural Video...be afraid, very afraid |
Here's my take...
I'll preface this by saying I won't be seeing them and will probably like to get updates on how they are playing setlists, ect. I hope they pull off the tour I really do.
As for this show, how can anyone place any value or review it in any way? This is a once in a lifetime gig in front of the President. I'd be crapping my pants. It's an inauguration so you really can't expect a new potato caboose. As for the tuxes, don't know too many people who would be without formal attire an a presidential inauguration. Plenty of time to crush these guys in a few months when they hit the road. Hopefully there will be no need but I really would put any stock positive/negative on this one.
